PRESENT WELL
Workbook
Do you need to deliver academic or professional presentations in English
– and want focused practice rather than another theory-heavy book?
The PRESENT WELL Workbook is a practical training book for non-native speakers of English (B2–C2) who wish to improve their presentation skills in a systematic way. It is designed for university students, future teachers, researchers and professionals who already use English regularly and now want to speak more clearly, confidently and convincingly.
Working step by step, the workbook helps you to:
plan and structure effective talks (from brainstorming and outlining to key cards and hooks);
choose and combine clear structures such as chronological, problem–solution, cause–effect and pro–con–synthesis;
manage fluency, interaction and Q&A, including fillers, thinking time, time and floor management, and handling difficult questions;
develop a strong repertoire of useful words and phrases for introductions, purposes, benefits, signposting, describing visuals, and talking about trends;
adjust register and style for academic, professional or more informal contexts, including formal collocations and academic reformulations;
use powerful techniques such as the rule of three, contrast, focus, connections, understatement, and appropriate humour and warmth;
work on your voice: clarity and articulation, stress and emphasis, chunking, pacing and pausing, pitch, tone, intonation and volume;
refine your body language: facial expressions, gestures, posture, stance and eye contact in both live and online settings;
deal with the physical setting: technology, lighting, acoustics, room layout, and online vs. live vs. hybrid presentations;
give and receive constructive feedback using clear, polite and precise language.
Each chapter contains short “LANGUAGE FOCUS” boxes (why this matters, patterns and phrase banks, common pitfalls) followed by a wide range of exercise types: gap-fills, matching, transformations, guided micro-tasks and freer practice activities that prepare you for real presentations. Tasks are based on realistic academic and professional scenarios and are suitable for self-study, seminars, skills courses, teacher training and in-company workshops.
The PRESENT WELL Workbook is part of the MASTERING ENGLISH series. It can be used on its own or together with the accompanying PRESENT WELL Textbook (theory and exercises) and the PRESENT WELL Phrasebook (compact banks of ready-to-use expressions).
Together, these three books provide a comprehensive path from careful preparation to confident delivery – so that you can present well in English in any setting.
